Czechs Sell Tanks to Nigeria to Fight Boko Haram
Source: zpravy.idnes.cz Hello everyone, it looks like vile islamist barbarians from the Boko Haram sect will have their lives get a bit harder soon. Czech company Excalibur Group, led by a former armorer Pavel Strnad, managed to acquire as many as 58 T-72 tanks (T-72M1 variant) from Hungary to sell them – with other heavy military equipment – to the army of Nigeria, locked in a savage conflict with the brutal sect. 16 vehicles in total get to be transported to Nigeria in the largest transport airplane currently in use, Antonov An-225. The estimated price of this part of the contract is somewhere around 197 mil. CZK (cca 8 mil.USD). Quite a bargain for such a firepower. Nigerian army’s enemy, the Boko Haram islamic sect committed over 100 terrorist attack in 2014 alone, with the death toll of over 3000 people. During the last 5 years of the conflict, it is estimated that over 13000 people lost their lives and over 1,5 million people were forced from their homes and had to flee from the fighting. Personally, I think it’s a good fate for these vehicles, to be used one last time by proper army.

Light Tank Q&A
Hello everyone, another part of “Developer Time” show (where a developer answers player question) was released on Wargaming FM radio. Here’s the transcript, courtesy of WoT Express community. The answering developer is Yuri Filippovsky, “game balance designer”. - unfortunately, according to historical documents, AMX-40 was classified as a light tank, not much WG can do about it - T71 started to fall behind in statistics a bit, it was decided to buff it a bit - the statistics show that the light tanks do not fall behind a lot in XP and credit farming behind other classes - RU251 will not be nerfed - it’s possible that when Havok gets introduced, some tanks will have to be rebalanced, but WG is hoping this won’t happen - AMX-40 is the most dull LT in the game - the most important role of the light tank is to spot - there is already a fun mode in development for April 1st, it’s not a “zombie” mode - AMX-13/90 will not be buffed - it’s not yet decided, how the AMX-13/57 will be released to players - T-50-2 was removed “for various reasons”. It was removed “at the peak of its fame”, today, it wouldn’t be that famous anymore. It will not return. - tanks that move very fast suffer more from various engine bugs. More maximum speed than 80 km/h will not be implemented - T-54 “Light” is not suitable for a medium tank role (SS: earlier, this tank was considered for medium role instead at one point) - TD/HT viewrange nerf is not a LT buff per se, it’s about returning the classes to their originally intended roles - it’s very difficult to find suitable hightier LT candidates – scouting on high tiers is the role of medium tanks, there will not be a LT10 - 9.6 changes are not the last changes to the LT class - AMX 12t is fine statistically, many players play it - if you scout and spot with the LT, you will maximize your profits – complaints about LT XP/credit income are pointless - winrate in WoT statistics acts as a sort of “summary number” – there is no clear method how to determine whether a tank is OP or not - currently, LT’s are fine, MT’s do not surpass them totally - the gameplay became more dynamic with the introduction of new light tanks - LT stabilization parameters (accuracy on the move) are fine

Regarding the IM “rigging”, that took place (the rigging post from earlier), I recieved a letter from that clan’s diplomat M4Karabine, who apologized for the incident. The players who participated were punished for their rigging attempts by their clan. Now that is something I can respect. - “more than 20″ tanks in HD will come in 9.7 - Q: “War Thunder has different gun elevations on tanks than WoT!” A: “I really don’t care what gun elevation WT has.” - T28 TD will be replaced by an “early” T95 prototype, which will visually be quite similiar to the current T28 - alternative hulls will come after most tanks are reworked to HD - T-34-3 buff? “We’ll have a look.” - top gun of the LTTB LT doesn’t have rifling inside the barrel, it’s a bug - in 9.6 test 2 there are also some mild hangar visual bugs - the feature where the more battles you have on the tank, the more “worn” it would look (rusty, dirty) will not be implemented - modern camouflages (such as the Berlin Brigade one for the British) are not planned for PC WoT - serverside replays will in distant future (SS: IIRC, this was first announced in 2013… oh well) - it’s possible that Havok will initially be implemented to affect only tanks (SS: as in, various junk falling off the tank when hit, without the realistic destruction part) - on Russian server, the names of players participating in rigged IM battles will be published, but replays of the battles will not be made public in order “not to teach the audience how to misbehave” And that’s all for now. Hmm… not enough? You kids want a funny story before you go to bed? Alright children… sit down, uncle Silentstalker will tell you one. Once upon a time, there was an asshole. He roamed the comment section of various FTR posts, spamming the comments with insults (some pretty vulgar ones too). In order not to be recognized, he used a very original nickname Siemka. The poor thing however was not very smart and registered the troll account with an e-mail he tied to his Facebook profile. And so, I had a good chuckle and banned the asshat a few days ago and thought the matter closed. Until today. You see, Edrard, the owner of wot-news.com and a friend of mine got two letters today, both from the same IP address: 95.42.68.141, both from “concerned citizens”, telling Edrard to “clean you shit and put him in his place” (direct quote). After me and Edrard had a good laugh about it, I thought of looking up the address, whether it’s some “old friend” returning – and voila, it’s the stupid asshole I banned a few days back and already forgot about. Furthermore, the second e-mail was from the SAME address he used to spam FTR comments with, hashat12@hotmail.com, introducing himself as “Nikola” in the first e-mail and “BonchoSloncho from EU server” in the second one. Tried pasting that e-mail to Facebook, as I did before. It led to the “Nikola Nikolov” profile from Varna (the profile was made non-public or deleted a few minutes), with “McDonalds staffmember” listed as his employment. Well, I didn’t expect a rocket scientist, but this is pretty funny :) So, BonchoSloncho, I really suggest you stay away from FTR from now on and to the rest of you… good night :)

As you can see, Wargaming is working very hard on making the game better, using their time at work in most productive ways :)     An internal (unlisted) Wargaming video with WG staff singing “Happy” :) It’s quite funny actually (not sure why it was never shared). The staffmembers are recognized are Big Boss Kislyi, Ola, Asya, Evilly and Jabba the Hutt, the rest I have no idea who they are.

Armored Warfare Pre-Alpha: First Impressions
Hello everyone, so, as I announced earlier, I was offered a chance to be amongst the first 500 hundred in the first public (pre)alpha test of Armored Warfare, the upcoming tank game by Obsidian Entertainment. Naturally, I grabbed it, curious how this game would turn out. A little explanation first however. Experienced game developers know that when you make a game, the first thing you can (and should) release is not even alpha – it’s the proof of concept of sorts, a minimalistic version of what you intend the game to be – and let people critisize it. It’s not closed beta, it’s not even real alpha, it’s just a small version of the world your game will bring to the PC screens, one day. As such, a lot of features are missing, as the client gets cut to its core, not to distract the testers by any immediately unnecessary features. This is called “minimum viable product” and you can see more about this concept in this video. That’s exactly what this pre-alpha was and that’s how I approached it. There was a developer warning that some stuff will be bugged and testers are encouraged to report the issues. The test took place yesterday and took 4 hours. As many of you know, Gaijin based its tank part of War Thunder on one point: “it’s different that World of Tanks” – and that was it. Same tanks, different methods – some like War Thunder tanks, I don’t, I think it’s a major clusterfuck and it sucks. Obsidian on the other hand went a different way. Their basic idea is that whatever we might think of Wargaming and World of Tanks issues (disappearing tanks, arty, RNG etc.), the game concept is actually very good (just look at the massive success of World of Tanks) – so why not use it, build upon it and improve it? And so, Armoured Warfare begun as a pure WoT clone with modern tanks. But is it still one? Let’s have a look at it. First thing you will notice after logging in (the installation was fairly okay and fast) is the garage, which is very familiar. Basically it looks like a WoT hangar, but better. You can immediately see that a lot of features are missing, you can’t upgrade the tanks and such for example and there’s no real money system yet, all you can is actually… play, with tanks. And some tanks they are. In the test, there were several pieces of hardware, from an advanced MBT (T-90) over a light tank (Stingray II), scout (Weasel), tank destroyer (wheeled Stryker) to artillery (Akatsiya). The level of details on these tanks is very high – especially the T-90 model is of higher quality than Wargaming HD models. Very pleasing to look at. Naturally, I selected it first and pressed the “battle” button immediately. The garage UI is pretty sleek by the way and and the background music I really liked for some reason. So, the battle then. The graphics, as you can imagine, especially on one map (the Graveyard, an old overgrown airport with various wrecks) are very, VERY good. Even in this poor unoptimized engine iteration (testers were specifically warned by developers that this client is not optimized and has significantly higher requirements than the final product will have), the map looks stunning. Sounds of gunfire, planes flying overhead, stuff exploding… I really liked it. And then there’s the night. And rain. The terrain looks very natural, not like an artificial gameplay arena in WoT. The price for this look is that you have to pay more attention to your surroundings, but that’s okay, it is really, really pretty. And you can turn on the tank headlights, imagine that! Took me a while before I discovered. The next thing I discovered was this not being a good idea – yep, doing that will make you a big fat attractive target. But it’s pretty. Second map is like a city and it kinda resembles Himmelsdorf, only without all that dark filter shit. The city looks bright and has this mediterranean and modern flair. Not bad, but a bit bland. Ah well, no matter. The tanks look very pretty all of them, especially on highest details. And how fast is this thing going? Well, as fast as World of Tanks apparently. On a solid computer (no bleeding edge, but solid), 50-60 FPS, depending on situation and map. Drops to 40 in worst situations, but that’s max details and rain, smoke, explosions, tanks and shit flying everywhere. Not bad for a pre-alpha – even this build beats WoT to pieces – WG will not be able to match it anytime soon, not without HD maps and, knowing WG, that’s like two years of work from now. So yea, the Cryengine works. Then there’s the fun part, the tanks. The tanks feel like tanks, not like electric toys on tracks. The movement can be compared to WoT (thanks god – no WT sliding), but it’s smoother and overall very, very good. The tanks also feel FAST – much faster than their speed would suggest, rushing forward in a Stryker is quite an experience. Even the T-90 is no slouch. You hear the engine roaring (better than WoT’s “droning” engine noise) and the steal beast belches smoke and fire, as you move forward – and it’s quite a fire. The explosions, gunfire and fire effects are simply beautiful, miles ahead of anything WG has ever shown. Pressing that fire button and watching an enemy tank exploding really does feel good. Generally, the basic gameplay really impressed me. With proper development (again, pre-alpha stage!), this game will resemble Battlefield more than it does World of Tanks and yes, that is a good thing. At the same time, most of the things in the game are really easy to figure out and intuitive, which is extremely important for new players. The battles were very fast paced. No camping. I assume it is the nature of the vehicles as well – AW will mostly lack “really slow stuff” like the T95 or Maus, simply because these dinosaurs died out right after the war and 10 years later, there were no such vehicles in service anymore. The game is definitely somewhat than World of Tanks in almost every respect. And there are some pretty original things too, like the light tank deploying smoke grenades, that cover you for a very short while (not eating shells, just a vision obstacle). Extremely useful! But… But of course, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. There were a number of issues, I’ll run over them quick. - the test was EXTREMELY laggy (despite solid latency of cca 50ms), probably caused by the server itself not being ready or something, practically all players reported these issues - the UI is very cluttered with unnecessery stuff – basically it’s like full XVM, newbies will be lost in it - ramming is very unsatisfactory, the vehicles feel like they have little weight when you ram, they just stop from one another - some objects destruction effects are not implemented, they just switch to their destroyed model - artillery works just like in WoT and given the nature of the battle, it’s either OP as fuck (it can fire guided missiles, so you can imagine the joy), or (much more common) completely useless, you won’t hit anything (a lot of RNG). The last point however was mentioned by the AW developers to be reworked to a completely new model – hopefully it’ll be something more competitive, but quite frankly, given how fast the vehicles are and how easy it is to flank someone, I think the game could do even without arty altogether. Considering the above, I have no idea why it was even included in the test. Conclusion Considering this is even a pre-alpha stage, I was very satisfied. Yes, the engine needs serious tuning. Yes, the server needs fixing as well, the lags were sometimes like WTF level. Yes, there were only five tanks. But I do have a good feeling about this (and I rarely do about a game). So, the question that is on some people’s mind is… will it be a WoT killer? No, of course not. At this point World of Tanks is in the same position World of Warcraft is, the defining element of its genre. But, I think it will bite off a chunk from the playerbase – specifically the playerbase that pays most per capita. And no, that’s not the Russian one…

- Berlin Brigade camo for Xbox WoT version will be implemented according to The_Chieftain - according to Storm, the height of Leopard 1 (SD) model in game is historical - Q: “Why is there no exception for arty in the global accuracy nerf?” A: “Because it is global.” - more info about the new shell distribution within aim circle will come “when it appears in the game” - Storm states that limited MM for premium tanks was never one of the basic premium tank principles (requirements) – the fact that future premium tanks will not have limited MM does not mean that other “basic principles” (such as premium tanks being weaker than regular ones) will be broken, Storm emphasizes that this change is made with long-term perspective in mind - IS-3 HD model surface (irregularities) was made both using polygons and regular mapping - AMX ELC in HD? “When it’s done it’s done” - WG does have enough materials for IS-3 HD modelling - HD model of T95 will be changed still (the hatches will be made the way it was in 9.5) - T29 in HD will come in “medium future” (SS: forgot the term I used for this, basically 3-6 months) - it’s possible that Schmalturm Panzer IV in HD will get its side screens as collision model, it will also come in “medium future” - Jagdpanzer E-100 in HD will come soon - Luchs and Leopard to get buffed? “We have to watch the statistics” - the fact you can disable the UI (by pressing V) does not mean Hardcore Mode (without UI) will be introduced, it’s for making videos (SS: yes, people actually ask this stuff) - Storm does not know how WoT will react to Windows 10 - Storm considers the variant where the tanks are scratched and look “used” more correct than if the tanks looked like brand new from the factory - for now, WG is not considering removing platoons from individual missions (not in 9.7 anyway) - Evilly in informs that WG is aware that amongst the people, who already have the IM tanks on RU server are people, who got them through rigging their battles, specifically by forming platoons and then getting to the same battles on the same server in the night (low peak) by counting 3, 2, 1… and pressing battle button. These players will be investigated through logs and if found guilty, they will not only lose the tanks, but will also be punished according to rules. And now, off to test Armored Warfare. And yes, there will be a report.
